Hearing from God

More and more lately I am realizing that most people want to hear from God but most of us aren't even sure it is possible on a daily basis. If we aren't sure of that, we won't persue it. Learning to hear His voice above our own and above all the other voices and sounds can be challenging. It also takes time and some consistency. I think how most of us recognize our parent's voices. That recognition happened over a long period of time, by repetition, by being exposed to that voice. The conversations with our parents may have, at times, seemed unimportant, but we learned to recognize their voice. I have found it to be the same with God. I have found that God likes to just "hang out" with me. It may seem silly to ask God, "how are you doing?", but that's what I do. (It is the same way I greet my other friends.) I have to say the answer is a surprize many times. It never ceases to amaze me that the God of the universe wants to just "chat" with me. It also touches me when He shares things that are "on His heart". So, I am also learning to hear His voice above all the others. It offers me friendship, affirmation, love and guidance. I also talk with Him and I believe that He enjoys what I say to Him too. I used to think of God like a GPS system, just for directions. I was really missing out. He really does want to be much more than that in my life and in yours too : ) Enjoying the journey, Mary
